what it is: mystifying metamorphosis
where i found: underground
When I think of Finland I think of good times rock n' roll. Nothing gets me in the mood to party like some Impaled Nazarene, Satanic Warmaster or Incriminated. One of the more mystifying trajectories in Finish metallic music has come to us via the always creepy Beherit, an early portal of deep blackness turned into a later portal of ???
Drawing Down the Moon (full album youtube here) is one of the more unsettling corpse painted affairs in the evil music cannon, albeit soon dethroned by a subsequent something called h418ov21.c which gives us awful drum machine, Casio keyboard, very crummy rap and such hits as a song called Fish, which doesn't seem to sound like any fish I've ever encountered unless its a broken robot fish flapping it's tail. Others have theorized that something like a nervous breakdown or drug induced psychosis happened in between these records, but I like to think of it as an oddly emotionally authentic and conscious screw-you-metal-heads-who-think-you-know-what-disturbance-and-evil-is aesthetic choice.
Sort of related in a very loose way (1. involves psychologically bizarre electronic music, 2. composer included as intro on Mayhem album = black metal link) is this playlist of Conrad Schnitzler tracks and videos. I recommend maximizing the video on your screen and just letting it do it's thing for a few hours.
